Over the years the Sylvia Pitcher Photo Library has become internationally known for its fine collection of Blues Musicians.
In the 1960's Sylvia Pitcher carried out regular commissioned work for various magazines photographing pop stars of the day such as Engelbert Humperdink, Georgie Fame, Gene Pitney and Cliff Richard. She also worked for Design Groups and Record Companies and it was during the course of work for these clients that she took photographs on spec for possible use as record covers. These shots ultimately formed the basis of a photo library that has been thriving ever since. An emphasis on Blues, Jazz, Old Time Country, Bluegrass and Cajun music quickly followed. Initially the views were taken as an adjunct to the musicians but later became far more general in content and are mainly rural, apart from the obviously music-related cities of New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis and Chicago.
We welcome picture requests from researchers worldwide who can be assured of Sylvia's first-hand knowledge of the subjects if it should be required.
Clients include record companies, design consultancies, advertising agencies, T.V. and production companies and publishers of various media including magazines, encyclopaedias and books from "coffee table" to educational.
